Adam Smith 1723-1790
Just as the Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Adam Smith
was born and grew up in Kirkcaldy, Fife. Adam Smith is known as the
founder of economics. In 1776 The Wealth of Nations was published and
is one of the most influential works of economic theory in the world
today. His face is on the back of a Bank of England £20 note and
there is a statue to him on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh which was
sculpted by Alexander Stoddard.
