Eric Liddell 1902-45
One of Scotland’s
most famous and outstanding sportsmen and known as "The Flying
Scotsman”. Liddell broke the British Record for 100 yards in 1923, and
then won Gold in the 400 metres at the 1924 Paris Olympics. His life
was immortalised in the film Chariots of Fire where he refused to run
in the 100 metres because it was on the Sabbath. He devoted much of his
life to the church and spent many years in Northern China as a
missionary.
