John Paul Jones 1747-1792
The founder of the American Navy he was born
in Kirkcudbrightshire in 1747. During the American War of Independence
he fought with the French when they planned to invade Britain in 1778
and only the weather prevented him from attacking Edinburgh.
His most famous quote is a retort to Captain
Pearson (No Relation to Graeme E. Pearson) “I have not yet begun to
fight.”
