A professional soldier who fought in Europe before returning to control the Covenanters in the reign of James II where he earned the name "Bluidy Clavers.” For his persecution of  The Covenanters He was killed by a stray bullet through the eye during the Battle of Killiecrankie. There is a visitor centre at Killiecrankie near Pitlochry.
